Joseph Busha, one of the presidential candidates who came third in the July harmonised elections said sanction are a pain to the populace of Zimbabweans and United States of America should consider removing them so that Zimbabwe moves in the right direction.
The economic sanctions imposed by the US government on Zimbabwe through the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (ZIDERA) (S. 494) has had a negative impact on the country’s economy adding that they will soon deliver a letter to the government to push for the removal of sanctions.
“As a party, we have called for the repeal of ZIDERA. We think the United States of America should review and reverse ZIDERA. Imposition or the renewal of ZIDERA is against what the United States government say they want to do for the people of Zimbabwe.
FreeZim Congress president, has called on the United States government to be sincere and remove the economic sanctions, which he believes have caused a lot of untold suffering to the people of Zimbabwe.
“They say ZIDERA is aimed at promoting democracy, to ensure that Zimbabweans participate fully in the economic activities of the country. But by reintroducing ZIDERA, we believe this has a negative effect on the majority of Zimbabweans because economic activities are stifled yet the executives in government continue not to feel the consequences of ZIDERA,” said Busha.
Apart from advocating for the removal of sanctions, Busha said it was not appropriate for the government to move the parliament to Banket at a time the country was struggling economically.
“There are no medicine in hospitals but you priorities moving the Parliament to Banket,”he asked.
After the presser he thanked every Zimbabwean who voted for him during the July harmonised elections and wished every struggling Zimbabwean a happy festive season.
